Amsterdam Fixed Gear

One last post about The Netherlands. It turns out not everyone in Amsterdam rides big heavy dutch bikes. During my week there I managed to find the local fixed gear community, they’re called the “faster than you crew” and are centred around the Pristine Fixed Gear store in Amsterdam. I was lucky enough to be there for both their weekly ride and an for an alleycat, which was the first in a series called The Tournament. Here are some shots from both of those.

Dutch Countryside

I’ve seen a lot of The Netherlands over the last week or so, and there’s a lot more to it than just Amsterdam. I’ve had some great rides between cities, along the water and through the countryside. Here are some shots of the places in between.

Bikes Bikes Bikes

Everyone in The Netherlands rides a bike. Kids, adults, elderly people ride bikes to get around. Even yuppy mothers choose to transport their children around in cargo bikes rather than 4 wheel drives. There are also less traffic jams and fat people.

Delft

Delft is a small city near Rotterdam in The Netherlands. It has been described as a mini Amstredam, with mini streets and mini canals and even a mini coffeeshop. This is Delft, from the roof of Oude Delft 106.

Bruges

A tiny preserved medieval city in Belgium. Even more beautiful at dusk.

A few more shots of London

Here’s a bit more of London, there will be more to come once I get my film back but that probably won’t be for a while as I am now in Belgium

Big Red Buses

So I’ve become slightly obsessed with photographing London’s buses. They look like a cartoon. They’re big and bright and contrast perfectly with the grey buildings, and even though I’ve come close to being run over by them numerous times, I still think they’re awesome.

Welcome to London

London is big, super crowded, busy and the streets go in random directions and curve around, (kinda like Sydney but less shit). It’s easy to get lost, especially when you come from a grid city, but that’s half the fun. It’s going to take a long time to see it all.

I am a tourist

For the next 7 months or so I am going to be living/travelling in the UK and Europe. I decided that I’ve shot everything that Melbourne has to offer and it’s time to see what the rest of the world looks like, from behind the lens. I promise I won’t post too many standard touristy shots, I hate those. However, photographs of tourists are a different thing altogether, here is the first of many.

Eyes

I used to draw… then I got a camera and kinda just stopped, which is silly. Then one day I decided to take my camera out in a crazy storm, to try and get some cool shots of people running through flood waters and such. Anyway, I broke my camera, turns out it is not as weatherproof as I thought, and while it was being sent away for repairs I started drawing again. So here is a drawing, an actual drawing done with charcoal on a piece of paper. It is a drawing of my friend Harry’s eyes. Enjoy

Sunset at the Museum

Some shots from Thursday night ride, starting every week from Melbourne Museum. At this time of year, the sun is setting just as we roll out. I feel I need to make the most of this before the days start getting shorter
