Teufelsberg
The Teufelsberg in Berlin is a hill made up of rubble from the second world war with an abandoned US listening station at the top, once used to listen in on Soviet and East German military traffic, it is now used for secret parties, sound recordings and as the place where you get the best view in Berlin.
Spree Park, Berlin
Spree Park is an abandoned amusement park in Berlin. As soon as I heard about it I had to go see it, twice. It’s a pretty fucking cool place. Berlin is full of abandoned buildings and spaces like this, which makes it a great city for urban exploration (wank term for breaking into abandoned buildings) and just like everything else in Berlin, it’s only kind of illegal and no one really cares.
Crossing Borders
The other day I crossed my second international border by bicycle. It’s really not that exciting in the EU. There’s no one waiting at the border to stamp my passport while I trackstand. I was really hoping to do that. But this time it was on a dirt road and I wasn’t even sure exactly where the border was, but then all of a sudden the road signs change language and everyone is driving a Mercedes. Here are some shots from my ride from Arnhem, The Netherlands to Dusseldorf, Germany (where I then cheated and caught the train to Berlin)
